President Trump was suppose to give his State of the Union address Tuesday, January 29th, but things have changed. The State of the Union address is a speech the President gives to Congress at the beginning of each calendar year in office. Usually the message includes a budget plan, economic report, and proposals that the President might have for the legislator.

This will be President Trump’s second State of the Union address. Nancy Pelosi wanted President Trump to postpone the address until the government opened back up. On Monday, they both agreed to push the State of the Union address out until February 5th. President Trump told Pelosi “"We have a great story to tell and yet, great goals to achieve!" Many in government affairs are not fearing President Trump as much. They “smell blood in the water”. In a news article from CNN it says, “Democrats suggest that Trump is beginning to take on the look of prey for opponents ready to pounce on his sub-40% approval rating.” Democrats are looking to push President Trump out of the running in the 2020 election.

What do you think will be in President Trump’s address?
Do you think President Trump will propose a new plan to build his wall?
How do you perceive Nancy Pelosi as a person?

  1. I think President trump will talk about the wall and a finical plan. I do you think President Trump will propose a new plan to build his wall.
I would perceive Nancy Pelosi as a very tough person to get anything by, and I think she is also rude.

  2. I think Trump's main issue he will address will be the wall. Also he may even bring up the government shutdown. Nancy Pelosi is a very opinionated person and could change her tone to get her point across.

  3. I agree with Elizabeth and Daniel. There is no doubt that Trump will address issues concerning the wall. The government shutdown is also too big of a concern for him to ignore. Nancy Pelosi is not the type of woman to back down. She is strong-willed and won't let anyone walk over her; however, I do think it would do her well to try to listen to the other side and not be so caught up in her own opinions.

  4. I think President Trump's main points will be our financial situation, paying government workers, and the wall. I think he will try to get the money any way he can, so his ideas to get it for the wall will change, but the overall plan will probably stay the same. I feel like she is trying to see change way too much, she doesn't want anything to happen that Trump wants, and she is seemingly rude and a very angered person.

  5. President Trump will most likely discuss the Government Shutdown. I also feel like he will talk about other issues like the opioid crisis, the wall, and immigration. Nancy Pelosi is not the best person for the job. I try not to judge her since I am not in her shoes. She might surprise us all and be the best Speaker of the House ever.

  6. President Trump's address will probably be about more of the same kind of topics that he usually talks about. He will talk about how we as a country need to be unified in protecting our borders, and blaming democrats for the disturbance in the federal government (when really it is both sides not cooperating). I believe Nancy Pelosi was strong about not giving in to the whims of the president, and I am personally happy that she did. I think Nancy Pelosi is a strong political figure and I tend to care more about somebody's record than the fact if they're a good person (it is not something to completely overlook, but it is not more important).

  7. President Trump will try to unite the country despite the current shutdown and obvious partisan split. I believe he will try to promote bi-partisanship. I am sure the wall will be mentioned but i doubt that it will be the focus of the address. She is a politician just like any other. Maybe that's the reason she has such a difficult time working with Trump. He doesn't follow the typical rules of politics.

  8. I think President Trump will take this moment in the spotlight to attempt to reassure the people and calm any boiling tensions before they get him booted out of office (or out of the next/re-election). If he doesn't try to appeal to the whole nation, I can imagine him scapegoating the government shutdown on the "uncooperative Democrats" as a sort of call to arms/for support from his party, and possibly to try to guilt Democrats into agreeing to something more on his side of the spectrum in terms of a compromise about the wall/border security (the main hot-button issue in the middle of the government shutdown).
Hopefully Trump has a new plan to build the wall - obviously, the one he had isn't working. Mutual, bipartisan compromise is what this country needs, especially right now. Everyone is being negatively affected by our government not functioning... they even had to reschedule This Is Us, for crying out loud!!! It is time to listen with open hearts and minds, and try to see things from the other side. It is time to think logically, and make change happen for the sake of the people they were elected to serve. I personally don't know enough about Nancy Pelosi to speak for her character, but I support her insistence on focusing on what really matters--opening back up the government--and ability to compromise.

  9. I think it’s very obvious he’s going to talk about the shutdown. I think he’s also going to blame everything on the Democrats because that’s just how he is. After the Democrats won the house, he mentioned how he wants to “embrace bipartisanship”. I believe he will follow up that quote with the fact that his version of “bipartisanship” isn’t going to work.

  10. I hope Trump will address the government shutdown and how it has affected the worksing class. I do not doubt he will bring up a new proposed plan for the wall that he thinks will work. Nancy Pelosi is a strong political figure who is very opiniated and not afraid to share those opinions to the public.

  11. It is very likely that Trump will bring up the wall and the shutdown. Hopefully he will bring about a better solution to the wall.
