How will this impact donations from democrat billionaires? Will this “race to the left” unite democrats or separate them? What has caused this change from trying to appear more central to now trying to appear farther from the center? Do you believe that the democratic nominees will keep these promises if they take office, or are they just trying to get attention?
I think billionaires would still donate, but they would definitely donate less. I think this race would separate democrats. I think people are doing things like this because it appeals to the uneducated voters, who see that it shouldn't impact them and it will lower our debt. I think this is just an attention grabber, but if they do get elected they should follow their promises and that goes for both sides.
ReplyDeleteThe billionaires will still donate, but not near as much. Yes a lot of the things they say are attention grabbers but I believe some of them will play out if they take office.
ReplyDeleteI think that the amount of dems running for the 2020 office is troubling, because we could have another situation where the minority candidate takes votes away from a bigger party; however, I am very hopeful that one special candidate will rise to the top and that democrats can unite around them. The sudden charge to the left is historically repetitive, as the people get unhappy with the current political climate (which someone always is) and they tend to vote the other side in order to change it. However much I agree with and support Elizabeth Warren, I believe she is too radical to win the 2020 election.
ReplyDeleteI think that this could impact donations from democrat billionaires as it is a potentially divisive issue; it will certainly encourage more leftist democrats to support Mrs. Warren, while more moderate dems may find her policy a bit much (especially if their wealth could be "harmed" by it). This “race to the left” could unite democrats, if they all decide to get behind the movement, or it could separate them, if they branch out and don't support each other. I think the political parties are both responding to the public/political atmosphere as they are somewhat polarizing to get more votes. This can be seen in our current POTUS, a very right-leaning Republican, and may be seen by the next Democratic President if one of the more extreme candidates garners that vote also. I do believe that the democratic nominees will at least try keep these promises if they take office; usually, key issues like this, or like Trump's wall, don't just go away, even if it takes a lot of time and effort to get them accomplished.
ReplyDeleteI think she will lose support form democratic billionaires. No one wants their hard earned money taken away from them. I think it will split the vote and make it hard for the democrats to come together and agree on a candidate.I think they will keep some of their promises, but I think it will be hard to pass that tax plan through congress especially if it continues to be partially in the majority of the republicans.
ReplyDeleteI believe this will separate democrats. I don't see how anyone would ever support this plan. She would lose support from rich democrats as well as from celebrities with high net worths. I also believe that this is all just for attention. I don't think Congress would ever pass this.
