When Steve Whiteaker was inquired about his position on encouraging entrepreneurship in Ozark, he stated that he wanted to use reserve money to fund the downtown area to create new businesses while also creating other opportunities for grants. I think this would help the downtown area tremendously and create plenty of revenue and traffic for the town. Roxie Hall’s rebuttal included wanting to clean up downtown and provide a comfortable environment for the businesses. I think this would be ineffective because most establishments decide where to place themselves where they think the most business is, not where it is aesthetically pleasing. A ‘new layer of paint’ alone would not better the towns entrepreneur population.
In my opinion, Steve Whiteaker won the debate. His ideas where very innovative and I truly believe he could better the town of Ozark.
In your opinion, who won the debate and why? How did the debate affect your opinion of the candidates? Who do you think will win the election?
I believe Steve Whiteaker won the debate. His ideas were more clear and thought out than Roxie Hall's ideas were. I realized Mr. Whiteaker was trying to get Ozark to grow a lot, but some ideas were not relevant or able to be done under his position. Mrs. Hall was trying to get Ozark to look better and welcomign so businesses or industries would move here, but she wasn't very clear on exactly how this would exactly be done. With the results of the election in, and Mrs. Hall and Mr. McNutt doing a runoff election, I believe Mrs. Hall would win do to the fact that Mr. McNutt was not present at the debate on which about everybody agreed that this decision hurt him.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I believe that Steve Whiteaker won the debate, I also think that his ideas lost him the election. Steve saw plans for Ozark to grow tremendously throughout his elected period. I think that a lot of Ozark citizens do not want the town to grow, but to stay the same. The debate showed me that two of the candidates are only running because they are popular in the city, not because they actually have a vision for the future of our town.
ReplyDeleteWhile both candidates did well during the debate, I personally think Steve Whiteaker won the debate. Though I do not agree with everything that Mr. Whiteaker stands for, I still believe that he performed better during the debate. He stood strong with his arguments and never seemed to back down. He challenged Roxie Hall on a multitude of issues and questioned her previous role in city government. However, Whiteaker contradicted himself at certain times and left his arguments open for attack. Despite this, Roxie never seized the opportunity to call him out on his contradictions. Personally I feel that Roxie Hall will win the runoff election. From what I have seen and heard many people are not happy with the job that T.R. McNutt has done during his time in office. They feel that it is already time for a change in leadership.
