Trump Begins Shutting Borders by Elizabeth B.

The White House confirmed that Trump will move more rapidly with shutting down the border if the Mexican government does not make an effort to stop undocumented migrants from coming over to the US.  Along with the closing off the border, the State Department announced that the US would cut off federal aid to three Central American countries if the undocumented migrants issue did not stop.  These countries will include: El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras.  Critics of Trump are focusing in on him cutting the funds, because ultimately it will hurt the programs that are already set in place for immigrants that are here legally.  While Trump has threatened these actions before this time he seems more determined than ever.

These actions will affect our nation is so many ways.  The US and Mexico along with Canada are major trading partners and closing the border will affect the relationship between the two allies.  One of the biggest impacts it will have is on the economy.  Over a billion dollars worth of goods cross over the border every day.  Therefore shutting down the border would cause turmoil and this would shut down many factories and lead to job loss.

Do you think the actions are justified?  Is it going to hurt the US more than help?

  1. I feel like his threats to close down the border are scare tactics. Trump is notorious for making threats against people and entities but never following through with them. Usually these tactics are effective in achieving their intended purpose. Given this, I don't think that there is much debate on whether or not it is justified. However, if action is taken then it becomes a matter of justification. Till then, I feel that people should take it with a grain of salt.
