Elizabeth Warren recently proposed a plan that would help to eliminate tuition at public universities and to help students with their student debt. Warren’s plan will cost about $1.25 trillion dollars. The question is how will it be funded? Well, her plan is to increase taxes on corporations and high income families. Along with getting rid of tuition costs public universities, she will expand federal grants and put aside money to fund historically black colleges. She plans to eliminate student loan debt based on income.
Free public college tuition would be awesome, however I am not for the tax increase on high income families. I do not agree with the fact the people will be forgiven of their student loans based on income. “She would eliminate up to $50,000 in student loan debt for every person with a household income of less than $100,000; borrowers who make between $100,000 and $250,000 would have a portion of their debt forgiven.” Everyone deserves a change at a higher education, but I do not find this plan fair to the children with hard-working parents. They cannot help how much money their parents make. They should be given the same debt forgiveness as everyone else.
Do you think this is a good plan? How do you feel about her plan to fund it? Is it a fair plan to higher income families?
The idea of eliminating student debt is great. However, eliminating debt by taxing higher income families is not the solution. I agree that it is not fair to tax higher income families more. People tend to think of the upper class as a group of rich snobs with highly expendable income. Nobody ever stops to consider that those people worked harder in order to gain that money. People don't become wealthy over night, they have to work hard for it. I think it is ridiculous that people ostracize the upper class for having more money than the general public. If taxation is going to occur it must be the same for everyone.
