Honduras Caravan Coming to the US by Elizabeth B.

A group of Central American migrants are on the move heading through Mexico and on their way to the Mexican and US border. Starting their journey on October 13 they embarked on their long expedition to America. As of right now they have estimated a high of 7,200 or more migrants on their way. The first group of migrants arrived in a small town in southern Mexico on Monday night. They had many reasons to leave Honduras, but the main ones were to get away from government corruption, extreme poverty, and rampant violence. Even though these migrants are wanting to better their life, it is a concern for President Trump and the nation. As of right now Trump’s plan is to send troops to the border and block the caravan. He is referring to the expedition as an assault on our country. The main concern is the November midterm elections coming up and all of these immigrants coming over. This is also going against Trump’s immigration policies that he has so strongly enforced. Trump has made numerous statements about how he believes the Democrats are to blame for this and that they are launching an attack on the sovereignty of our country. Are Democrats responsible for the migrants coming over? Is this good or bad for our country? What would be some good reasons for them to be allowed to come over?

  1. These migrants should not be allowed to just walk into the united states. It is very important that we secure our borders. The United States is one of the only countries in the World that just seems to allow illegal immigrants to enter our country.I understand why they are leaving their home country, but they must follow the laws when requesting to enter our country.

  2. I personally do not think that Democrats are the reason these immigrants are coming to America. These people want a better life for themselves and they think the United States is where that can be achieved. This would be a good thing for our country to become more diverse and accepting. When these immigrants come to America, they could take the jobs that no American citizens want and could possibly help improve our economy.

  3. In no way, shape, or form is it legal for the immigrant caravan to force their way into our country. Forming a mob group and forcefully barging into a nation without consent is not acceptable at all. If anything, the caravan should be treated as an invading force considering that they basically are invading the U.S. If the caravan somehow forces their way into the country it will set a bad example for our nation. If one group is able to do it, who is to say that other groups wouldn't be able to as well? I understand that many of the people in the caravan are seeking better lives, but they are going at this in an improper way. They should have to apply for legal citizenship just like everyone else who immigrates to the U.S.

  4. Why are we treating these migrants like criminals before they even attempt to enter/integrate into our country? This the country founded on immigration. Our national symbol (the Statue of Liberty) literally is inscribed with the words “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me: I lift my lamp beside the golden door.” This seems like such tragic irony. We need to remember our roots and have respect for our fellow human beings, realizing and respecting the fundamental value in all human life.

  5. In my opinion, Democrats are not responsible for all these people coming into our country. This can be bad for our country, due to the issue of overpopulation. While there are many reasons for migration to the U.S., such as war and poverty, people coming into the U.S. must realize how many people are already here.
