Joe Biden ran for president and was elected as a gun control cannidit. On Thursday, April 8th, he took his first step in bringing gun control to the United States. President Biden stated the gun violence America is experiencing, “is an international embarrassment.” After the recent mass shooting in Boulder Colorado Biden is ready for change. The president has requested that many things be changed in the way the United States currently sells firearms and who firearms are sold to. For Example, Joe Biden is suggesting that all gun trades should not be allowed and all buyers must complete background checks. He has also ordered the DOJ to complete an annual report of firearm trafficking which will make law enforcement able to remove guns from anyone who is a danger to themselves or to others. Although Biden seems confident about his proposal the House Minority has already begun denouncing Biden's proposition. House MInority leader Kevin MCcarthy tweeted, “will strongly oppose and pursue every option… to protect the right to bear arms.” The clashing of Republican and Democratic regarding gun control has always been popular, but with the new president's agenda the clashing is at an all time high. Joe Biden has plans to move forward with gun control legislation however, House Minority leaders have already begun to fight back.

Do you think the gun control legislation is beneficial? Will any of it pass? Will it reduce mass shootings?

  1. I doubt that it will help any. I feel like many states wont enforce this very much if it's passed. People will simply trade guns anyways. The background checks may help if they buy it from an actual certified seller. However if they go against the law and buy it off someone then it wont matter. It wont bring down shootings bc people will find ways and loopholes to obtain guns. - Tanner R.

    1. In response to gun violence, it is inevitable that there will be actions taken to decrease, or try to decrease, that violence. I think that the legislation will pass, considering just this previous month there were already two bills passed to "close loopholes in the gun background check system." While I obviously want gun violence to be reduced, I don't know how effective this legislation will be in decreasing shootings. It is hard to determine how beneficial this legislation is without actually seeing it put into action yet. -Kirstyn

  2. I believe that no matter if you think it would be successful or not, this will likely not happen. People and especially conservatives will do anything in their power to not let this pass due to the second amendment. Despite this, something does need to be done to help end our mass shootings.-Brooke H

  3. I agree, I don't think it will help very much when it comes to the gun control legislation. I also agree with Brooke when she says that she doesn't think that is likely not to happen, I see it the same way that she does. I don't see why President Biden is saying that all gun trades should not be allowed. - Jameson H.
