Nancy Pelosi narrowly reelected as House speaker, faces difficult 2021 | myfox8.com

January 3, 2021 Nancy Pelosi was reelected as Speaker of the House. Pelosi is now entering her fourth term leading the House. She is currently the only woman to ever serve in this position. Her win was not by much considering the Democrats have the slimmest house majority seen in the last 20 years. Corona Virus also changed the way voting had ever been done before. All members of Congress were required to have negative Covid test results and family and friends were not allowed to accompany members to Capitol Hill. Masks were required in the chamber. A plexiglass enclosure was also installed to allow members that were exposed to Covid to vote. Voting in person has been highly criticized by both parties. However, the Republican party in particular stated it was done specifically to endanger members to help Pelosi win. No matter the objection Pelosi was declared the winner and will begin her 4th term as Speaker of the House. Pelosi began this term by explaining that the most important issues for the 117th congress will be defeating the coronavirus pandemic.

Do you think voting was unfair? Will congress be able to defeat Covid? Do you believe Nancy Pelosi is bringing positive change?

  1. Thanks for addressing this topic and I believe that as long as both sides were safe and took safety precautions for covid-19, that the voting was safe and fair. I also believe that it will be interesting to view her and Biden's administrations' plan to battle covid-19 as his inauguration day is also this month. We will soon see if the promise to help America battle Corona will be fulfilled by Pelosi, the president, and congress. I do also hope that soon there will be positive change in the government.

  2. While I understand that voting was certainly more inconvenient, I also understand that some of the regulations had to be implemented for the safety of those voting. In terms of congress defeating Covid, I would like to hope that they can overcome this huge disturbance in our lives so that we can all move on and lead a somewhat more normal life. It's good to hear that defeating the coronavirus is a large priority for congress. -Kirstyn

  3. I am glad that this topic was addressed because it brings up many points, like the fact that this is her 4th term to be in that same position. I honestly don't see why she doesn't have a term limit to her job title. There is one for the president and I think there should be one for that position too. Another thing, I don't see how Congress could beat the corona virus because they have no control over it or have the say so on medical matters, at least I don;t think they do. With Pelosi being a Democrat in a Republican White House, of course she wouldn't bring a positive change because she is a Democrat. I think it would be the same way if a Republican was the Speaker of the House and we were under a Democratic White House. - Jameson
