As of October 18, 2020 the United States has had 224k deaths due to the coronavirus. Doctors are now warning that as flu season approaches it could be a deadly mix. Hospitals are already occupied, and under a lot of stress from covid-19. There is limited space in many hospitals due to corona patients having to use ventilators. Many medical professionals are very concerned. They worry that since the corona virus already affects mostly the older generations that the flu doing the same might decrease medical supplies and help more than they already are. A bad flu season would add to the already high deaths this year. Another problem is also that many people are already facing long waits for the corona test. Adding a flu test would only increase the wait. Health professions are currently voicing their concerns and hoping people with preexisting conditions and the older generations will take this seriously and try to quarantine or limit their exposure to others as much as possible. Flu vaccines have always been heavily encouraged, but now they are being pushed more than ever.
I think that the flu is going to be a huge concern when flu season comes around. Some people aren't going to know whether they have the corona virus or the flu and it will be concerning not only to them but to the people around them. I think once the flu starts to hit, the world is going to go into another panic.

I think that the upcoming flu season is definitely an issue. Hospitals were already struggling during flu years, and now with corona the situation is much worse. According to The New Yorker, health-care providers are concerned about the chance of a "twindemic," and that people who get the flu will have a weakened respiratory system then get the coronavirus. Getting Covid with a weakened respiratory system could have major effects and increase symptoms. -Kirstyn
ReplyDeleteI do agree with you Hailie that this winter is going to be a deadly mix between the two. The corona virus isn't going anywhere anytime soon, and neither is the flu.Since the symptoms of migraine, having trouble breathing, and fever are both of the corona virus and flu this could cause trouble between diagnosing and more problems for the already full hospitals. I also believe that people need to stop caring so much about the corona virus vaccine, if they won't even get their flu shot. It's a simple solution that can help prevent many deaths and other effects of the flu. Both are deadly problems with very little solutions, but we need to do everything in our power unless we do want another quarantine.

Thank you Hailie for bringing up that coronavirus and the upcoming flu season can be a deadly combo. I agree with your post. I have also read the other posts. I disagree with Jameson on him saying that people will be confused whether they have flu or covid as they are two completely different roots, SARS-CoV-2 and influenza respectively. I agree completely with Kirstyn that people will be more likely to get weaker immune systems meaning more likely to get coronavirus. I also agree a little with Brooke that we need to do SOMETHING in our power to stop another quarantine from happening, but I believe government interference would cause numbers to spike instead of decline. It is human nature to rebel against something they aren’t allowed to do; a prime example of this is prohibition and why it was eventually repealed. I think the best way to handle coronavirus is to let people know how it spreads and how it works. I have seen many misconceptions about the virus. It should be noted that the virus spreads through bodily fluids and that it is NOT airborne. It should also be noted that when you get Covid-19, your blood will start to clot up since the virus is making numerous copies of itself in your healthy blood cells.

I dont think that the flu should be a huge concern unless you're really old or really young. For people that are of good health I don't think that it matters as much. However we should still wear masks and use the necessary precautions for covid- Tanner R
