"Trump: Bringing Peace to the Middle East" by Aaron B.

The Israel-Palestinian Conflict has been going on since Palestine was split up by the U.N. Partition of Palestine (1947) with Jews getting 55% of the land and Arabs getting 45%. The conflict had many complex issues that kept peace coming together.

On September 11, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif Al Zayani along with United Arab Emirates’ Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed made an agreement for naturalization of their countries relations. Bahrain is “the second Arab country to make peace with Israel in 30 days,” Trump tweeted, and it is the fourth country in the Middle East to recognise Israel as a country since its founding in 1948. Over several decades, most Arab countries refused to establish ties; however, last month the United Arab Emirates (UAE) agreed to establish a relationship with Israel.

President Trump and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, laid out the U.S.’s plan back in January and have been pushing for the conflict to be resolved. Under the Constitution in Article II, Section 2, Clause 2, the president of the United States has the power to establish foreign policies. The two Arab countries, UAE and Bahrain, signed at the White House last Tuesday, and President Trump has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. This is a breakthrough from decades of fighting, and President Trump has accomplished what no other president before him has done.

Do you think Trump deserves a Nobel Peace Prize? Why has the American media been so mediocre about something so huge? I had to go to other countries' news sites to find out about this. More importantly, will the rest of the Arab countries and Palestin finally make peace and accept Israel?

  1. I think that it was a good thing Trump did. I am surprised I have not heard more about this. I do not think he should be given a Nobel Peace Prize however, because he has not been able to bring peace to his own country. That is not meant to lessen how this is an accomplishment and I am glad to hear good that he has done.

  2. Even though I also don't agree that Trump deserve's a Nobel peace prize, I don't disagree that this is an amazing accomplishment. The media probably doesn't want to cover this not because it is good news, but because the election is so close and both candidates need to talk about more important and pressing matters within our own country. It is good to hear what he has done for the middle east and also hope that the middle east is now one step further to peace from their own conflicts.

  3. I definitely think President Trump should be recognized for this breakthrough. This has been a conflict that has been going on for decades, and it is a big accomplishment to have it resolved. However, I do not think recognition for Trump should be shown through a Nobel Peace Prize. While his work in resolving the Israel-Palestinian Conflict should not be downplayed, I do not think that he merits a Nobel Peace Prize. According to Study.com, Martin Luther King Jr was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 for his unwavering dedication in "fighting intolerance and hate with peace," even while being subject to harassment and imprisonment. With this context, I believe that while Trump's work was impressive, he has not exactly met the same standard of the steadfast efforts of those who have gotten the prize before him, seeing as there is currently so much conflict in his own country. Still, I think that it is great to see one large conflict resolved in the midst of so many. -Kirstyn M

  4. I may not agree with a lot of what the POTUS does but I think that he should be recognized for what he has done in this historical moment, just not going as far as a Nobel Peace Prize. And I agree to the fact that it is monumental but not enough to receive such a high honor.

  5. I think that the POTUS has done helped a lot, but there's still a lot of work to do. I don't think that he deserves a Nobel peace prize because he hasn't done enough. This is an amazing accomplishment but people don't get awards for doing jobs halfway. -Tanner R.
