Fighting between the Taliban and American-backed Afghan forces has continued in recent weeks despite continuing negotiations on a framework to end the nearly 18-year war. Last month, two members of an American Special Forces unit and four Afghan Special Forces soldiers were killed during a joint operation in Gul Tepa District.
Monday’s attack near Bagram brings to seven the number of American troops killed in Afghanistan this year. The Pentagon did not say whether the service members killed were Special Operations troops that make up about half of the 14,000 American soldiers in Afghanistan.
President Trump has expressed his desire to withdraw American troops from Afghanistan. A Pentagon plan being offered in the peace negotiations would withdraw all American troops over the next three to five years. Americans have been stationed in Afghanistan since 2001.
Do you think we should pull our troops out of Afghanistan? Should they try to make a peace treaty? How well do you think that country will be able to sustain without American soldiers there? Does peace talks do any good?
I think that it is time for us to move on out, 18 years is enough. A peace treaty wouldn't hurt anyone. Surely after having us in their country for 18 years they can sustain.
ReplyDeleteI think withdrawing the troops from Afghanistan would be a good move. We have taken their oil, it's time to move on. I don't think American troops are doing too much over there right now anyways. I think a peace treaty would be beneficial, but not necessary, we could just pull all of our troops out. I'm not sure if their country will be able to sustain themselves, but it seems more like their problem than ours at this point.
ReplyDeleteI think it is fine if we remove troops from Afghanistan. A peace treaty could possibly make the situation better, but if we removed the troops the need for one would lower. I do not know enough about that country to tell if they will be able to handle themselves after the soldiers leave. Peace talks differ depending on what the situation is, but in this case peace talks seem that they could help.
ReplyDeleteI think after 18 long years, we should take them out. They should make a peace treaty. I think the country would not be able to sustain their country without Americas help. I think they do someone of a good job.
