Recently Amazon backed out on the idea of having their second headquarters in the area of Queens in New York. This was a blow to the city and state causing New York to lose the chance of over $3 billion in revenue and 25,000 jobs. The reason for the company to move was the lack of positive, collaborative relationships with state and local officials. These officials being strong democrats feared the influence of this large business in the state. Democrats like Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and Mike Gianaris supported and even celebrated when Amazon decided to back out of New York. Republicans and workers on the other hand were outraged because of the loss of money and jobs for the city.
Do you think moving the second headquarters of amazon somewhere else is a good decision for New York?
Will this loss of jobs and money hurt New York severely?
Is the elimination of corporate influence worth the loss of billions of dollars and thousands of jobs?
I don't think the loss of potentially having all this revenue and jobs come into the city is good for them. However, if they would rather do everything in their city based on politics they can do whatever the want. I don't think it will necessarily hurt the city but it definitely won't help them. If you believe in something so strongly that you are willing to lose these corporations it would be worth it.
ReplyDeleteOf course it would be a good idea for New York to expand the job market. I do not feel it will hurt New York significantly though.
ReplyDeleteOn the side of Amazon, I think it was a great idea from a business standpoint. For one, Amazon would be subjected to ruthless scrutiny from New York Democrats such as AOC. Second, I feel that i would have been a highly poor decision to place a headquarters in New York given the financial situation of New York City. With the city heading on a downward spiral towards bankruptcy, it would be quite foolish to place such a large corporation there. I do feel that the loss of potential jobs and revenue will hurt New York.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a representative like AOC, I would be ecstatic about Amazon wanting build their headquarters in my state. I would spread the news as much as possible and might even take the credit for getting them to build it there. I sympathize with the lower class in Queens that could've gotten a lot of money from the headquarters.
ReplyDeleteYes, they should move it else where, somewhere where it is less populated to help town to grow. No it wont hurt New York, they have many more jobs, and corporations that could take their spot. The elimination of corporate influence worth the loss of billions of dollars and thousands of jobs, I think not sir. Good day.
