Former lawyer of President Trump, Michael Cohen, Testifies Today
Michael Cohen, the former lawyer of President Donald Trump testified in court today concerning his trial. During his testimony, Cohen stated that he was, “No longer protecting Mr. Trump.” He came out strongly against Trump, calling him a racist and pointed out other prejudiced remarks Trump has made in the past. Although he is attacking Trump to protect himself, media sources have been highly critical of him for doing so. Many news outlets say that even though he is trying to help himself by calling out Trump, he should still respect the authority of his position and give Trump the respect the President deserves. When questioned about the Russia investigation, Cohen made it clear that he had no evidence to prove that Trump had interacted in any way with Russia to further his campaign, but was suspicious. Although President Trump is currently in Vietnam for a nuclear summit, he did take the time to react and attack Michael Cohen for the things he said about him in court and denied any claims made by Cohen. Despite his testimony today, Cohen is set to report to prison later this year for a three year sentence.
What did you think of Cohen’s testimony?
Do you think Cohen’s testimony will help in the Russia Investigation in any way?
Do you think Cohen was right to attack Trump to protect himself?
He is attacking Trump to protect himself because he doesn't have a backbone. He is being too much of a coward to come forward and say what needs to be said. He has been dishonest in the past, so who is to say that he isn't being dishonest now? I know that no one is perfect and that everyone makes mistakes, but that doesn't justify blasting someone else in order to save your own skin.
ReplyDeleteHis testimony sounds desperate. Nothing else has worked so he has resorted to the obvious, attack the man in charge. I doubt his testimony had much affect on the russia investigation considering all he had for proof was suspicion. I think he was not right to attack Trump.
ReplyDeleteI think he is very desperate, yes. However, everything I heard him say about Trump was accurate to President Trump's actions in the past- and present. Why should Cohen not attack Trump just because he's the President? If that is the case, then maybe our esteemed President should refrain from attacking people at his whim on Twitter as well.
ReplyDeleteI do not think Cohen's material evidence is proof enough to aid the Russian investigation, but I do wonder: why is Trump so nervous about Cohen's testimony? He stayed up all night in Vietnam just to watch his testimony, then to attack him on Twitter. If he's innocent, why is he worried?
I believe everything Micheal Cohen said to Congress should not be trusted. He is going to prison for lying to Congress so why should Congress or the American people trust him. His testimony was to help get himself out of trouble and only benefit himself.
ReplyDeleteGiven the fact that Michael Cohen's previous testimonies have been highly unreliable, everything he said during the current hearings should be taken with a grain of salt. In all honesty the Cohen hearings have been one large stunt that has been dragged on for far too long. Every time someone supposedly has new evidence proving Trump colluded with the Russians they always end up empty handed. In this hearing, Cohen literally stated that he had no definitive evidence proving any sort of collusion, only "suspicions." Cohen even contradicted his own statements multiple times. During the hearings Cohen attempted to prove that Roger Stone had worked for Trump, but by the end he ended up admitting that Stone had never actually worked for him. In another instance he tried to say that he was not eager to work at the White House. However, a friend and former coworker of Cohen came out and stated that Cohen tried hard to become the Chief of Staff and was furious when he was not chosen. All of this evidence proves that Cohen not in any way a credible source for information. In addition, I find it quite humorous that the media played the hearings up so much and then had absolutely nothing to report on. In fact, I have not seen a single news source reporting on the hearings today.
