Trouble for TSA by Hannah T.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/tsa-government-shutdown-number-of-tsa-agents-calling-out-of-work-spikes-as-security-line-wait-times-grow/

With the current partial government shutdown, many companies have been shut down as well. The employees of these companies are not receiving any pay during the time of this shutdown. This is becoming a problem for just about everybody. Anybody who has ever been in an airport knows that TSA lines can be extremely long, or extremely short. The TSA agents are not currently getting payed, they are not showing up for work. There are some agents showing up, but not many. This is making the TSA lines at airports all across the country extremely long. Some people have had to wait many hours to get through TSA. With the long lines, people are risking missing their flights entirely. The shutdown is not only affecting government employees, but others too. Working without pay is not beneficial at all to these agents, so during this tough time, some people have tried to help out TSA agents through giving money to them or organizing group meals.

Do you think it’s okay for the TSA agents to stop showing up? Because there is a major need for TSA agents, should they still be receiving pay? What can flyers do in order to help themselves so they don’t miss flights? What can flyers do to help TSA agents out as well?

  1. If I was a TSA agent I wouldn't show up. I would search for another non-government job until the shutdown ended. I wish everyone could still be getting paid that is being negatively affected from the government shutdown.

  2. I dont think it is okay for the TSA to stop showing up, but I understand because they have no insensitive to keep coming to work if they are not being paid. I believe that they should, its necessary to keep these agents paid in order to make sure that they are keeping our country and other countrys safe. Make sure that they get to the airport in time. To know ahead of time what they need to take off their person, and having their boarding passes and ID's ready would help.

  3. I can understand why some agents are not showing up for work. If I was not getting paid at my job I wouldn't show up. We should be paying the TSA to keep them happy. After all, they are the people making sure our flights are safe.

  4. I can completely understand not wanting to show up to work when you're not receiving pay, but TSA agents have a job that concerns the security of our nation. I believe TSA agents should be considered "essential" and definitely should be given income during this shutdown. Flyers should show up as early as possible and be organized so to minimize time spent screening.
