Kamala Harris Joins the Race by Gabby S.

A new presidential candidate for the 2020 election has emerged. Kamala Harris is a Democratic Senator from California who has just thrown her name in the hat to run as the Democratic Presidential candidate in the next election. Mrs. Harris is only the second African American woman to serve in the Senate and has served for just two years. However promising she seems, Mrs. Kamala’s record has come into question. She is facing scrutiny from both sides of the isle, as liberals question her true ideology and progressives criticize her seemingly new liberal agenda. Aside from her criticizers, she appeals to both the liberal and progressive voters.

Senator Harris is joining a long list of presidential candidates in the runnning for the 2020 election; however, her record is something that stands out from many others. Mrs. Harris is known for her questioning of Trump officials, most noteably of Jeff Sessions. In her role as Senator, she has managed a “$25-billion settlement for California homeowners hit by the foreclosure crisis, defended California’s landmark climate change law, protected the Affordable Care Act, helped win marriage equality for all Californians, and prosecuted transnational gangs that trafficked in guns, drugs, and human beings,” as stated by her website.

What do you think about Kamala Harris’s party alignment? Has she shifted to the left in recent years in preparation for a presidential race? Do you think she can beat Elizabeth Warren and Kirsten Gillibrand for Democratic Candidate?

  1. I don't know a lot about Kamala Harris, but she seems to be very popular considering she is just the second black woman senator. This will give her a huge advantage in the election. I would not be surprised if she tries to appear more moderate than she actually is to draw in voters. She can definitely beat Elizabeth Warren and everyone else to become the democratic candidate.

  2. Whoop whoop! Woman for President! I am impressed, though I'd never really heard of her before. Based on her solid track record, I think she has a chance of winning the Democratic Candidate ticket. An article by CNN says that Iowa Democratic county chairpeople want a young person who hasn't run for president before. According to the Wall Street Journal, that statistic is 43 of 76 county Iowa chairpeople. This makes it seem like her future is unsure but looking good as far as being the Democratic Candidate for 2020.

  3. I don't think she will win against Elizabeth Warren, because more people know of her because of her recent squabble with President Trump. I believe she has shifted to the democratic side recently in preparation of the 2020 election.

  4. I do not know a great deal of information about Kamala Harris, but from what I have read it is evident that she has shifted to a more liberal alignment in preparation for the 2020 election. I definitely think that she will be strong candidate during the election given. I believe that she will be able to beat Kirsten Gillibrand, but I am skeptical as to whether or not she will be able to beat Elizabeth Warren. Warren will definitely be the strongest Democratic candidate during the election, but Kamala will still have a large chance at securing the Democratic nomination.

  5. With many young people coming of age to vote and with the tendency of younger voters to vote liberal, it’s easy to see why leaning Democrat is an enticing tactic. Time will tell if she’s willing to be consistent with that set of views. I think Kamala could have a real advantage over other candidates if she can mobilize black voters as well as Obama. I love hearing that she has prosecuted human traffickers! I would very much like to see a president who sees the severity of this issue without tying it to immigration.

  6. I do not know much about Kampala Harris but it would be wonderful for woman to represented in such a huge political role. I think that Harris has leaned somewhat more towards the left in preparation for the 2020 election, but hope that she fully believes in the ideas she is supporting and follows through with them. I feel as though she will have an advantage with the POC voters and younger generation who are more liberal and looking for a change from the old white guy role reserved for president. Her ideas and movements in the past give me hope for her future ideas and i’m curious to see where she goes.

  7. I do not know much about her. Her being a woman and an African American will give her a huge advantage in the election. It seems the liberals are upset because she is moderate. This might be a good change for our country.
