Immigration is a current issue in our government that sparks a lot of controversy. Last week, President Donald Trump threatened Congress with a government shutdown if he did not receive his $5 billion to help fund his border wall project. Trump claims that if he does not get this money by December 8, 2018, he will shutdown the government. The caravan of migrants camped out on the other side of the border has been a good motivator for Trump to get the wall up and running. In January, the House of Representatives will be a majority of Democrats. As a result of this, Republicans are trying to get and secure funding for the wall before January when the Democrats take over. Many people question where the funding for the wall will come from.
President Trump has promised his supporters a big wall stretching across the United States-Mexico border since the beginning of his presidential campaign. I feel like this would be a good way to slow the loads of immigrants trying to illegally cross the U.S. - Mexico border. This shutdown could affect how our nation funds the wall. Many of Trump’s opposers are against the building of the wall.
Do you think the the wall is a good idea? Do you think building a wall is ethical? What could be a better alternative to the wall?
I believe that the wall is a GREAT idea! I realize that our country was built on Immigrants, but not many people lived in the colony at that time. It keeps us from having over population, of course its ethical! Nothing, build a 30 feet tall concrete wall, as long as it serves a purpose, then do it!
ReplyDeleteI think if he wants to build a wall then have at it. However, I also think that if people really wanted over they would find a way. I do think that this would assist in slowing the illegal immigrant flow though. Another thing I want to put out there is the question of " Can Trump shut down the government" and " Would that even be a wise decision". I feel like Trump will get his wall but, his satisfaction will be short lived.- marissa jones

ReplyDeleteThe wall is ethical. Many people have used it, but I don't like the government shutdown tactic. Trump is a wise businessman, so I trust him to build the wall at a relatively low cost. I hate government spending, but building the wall will help end illegal immigration in America. After the wall is built, our focus needs to turn to legal immigration and granting citizenship to people who will contribute to America.
ReplyDeleteI think that the border wall is a good idea. It will help combat the flow of illegal immigrants as well as the flow of violence and other illegal activities that can come into our country. I believe that building the wall seems a little unethical; however it will help protect our country so it is justified. Increased border patrol may be a better alternative to the wall, but that would be more expensive to pay all the agents instead of a one time expense.
ReplyDeleteI don't think this wall is ethical. President Trump is literally drawing lines in the sand, when he could be opening borders and encouraging immigration to improve relations between Mexico and America. This includes trade relations, which, if improved, could help boost the American economy. Trump threatening Congress and the House of Reps with a government shutdown if he doesn't get his way is not the most ethical nor professional way to get his goals accomplished.
ReplyDeleteI do not think the border wall is a good idea. If people want to get into America, they will find a way as they have before. I also do not think the wall is ethical, instead of building a wall to stop these people from entering the country, Trump could be offering immigration to those who want it which could improve the relationship between America and Mexico. With that relationship, the economy in America would improve and possibly make many new jobs for both immigrants and Americans.
ReplyDeleteThe wall is ethical. Multiple other country's have used this tactic to protect their boarders. Government shutdowns are never good, but sometimes it is the only way to force a compromise on both sides. An alternative to a physical wall could just be stricter policing of the boarder. This will eventually become more expensive than the wall and less effective.
ReplyDeleteI don’t think the wall is a very good idea. A better alternative to a wall is just protecting the border more with security.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I think that our borders need to be better protected, I don’t think a wall is a very efficient way to protect them. I believe that there is a better solution to our problem than spending billions of American dollars on a concrete wall that will still not keep illegal immigrants from entering the U.S. However, I don’t see anything unethical about the wall, I think that we should do whatever we think is best to protect our borders in any way possible.
