Within the last week, President Trump's supreme court pick, Brett Kavanaugh, has been under fire. Mr. Kavanaugh was alleged of sexual assault. He of course denies all alleged actions.

Blasey Ford has accused Kavanaugh of sexaul assualt when she was 15 and he was 17. Kavanaugh would be President Trump's second pick for the Supreme Court. If Kavanaugh is picked to be on the supreme, it would be a ¨major win¨ for President Trump. Kavanaugh would be replacing Supreme court justice, Anthony Kennedy. Justice Kennedy held many key votes in many decisions. It would would make the courts swing more conservative than liberal. At the moment there are four conservative justices and four liberal justices. With Kavanaugh being conservative, it will swing the vote more conservative.

For the Kavanaugh to become a supreme court justice, he has to go through a process. The president must nominate someone, then the nomination goes to the Judiciary Committee. The Judiciary committee is made up of 21 people, eleven republicans and ten democrats. Within the Judiciary committee has a three-step process. After the the nomination passes the Judiciary Committee, it goes to the Senate. Three-fourths of the senate have to approve of the nonmantion.

How do you think this will change the votes within Congress on the Supreme Court decisions? Why do you think Mrs. Ford is just now coming out with these allegations.

  1. I believe that some people will side with the allegations, and believe them. This could really hurt his chance becoming a new supreme court justice. I think this will have some members of congress vote "No" because of these allegations. I think Mrs. Ford is coming out with these allegations because she believes that someone that is going to have that much power should let people know the real Brett Kavanaugh.

  2. I think that this will very negatively affect the decision and that Kavanaugh will not get accepted into the Supreme Court. She was probably nervous about the reactions and criticism she would and is receiving from the nation.

  3. I would like to think the votes would go against Kavanaugh joining the Supreme Court, however I know that people all around the world are getting away with sexual assault just because of their power and influence on society. So I think it is possible he will join the court. I think Mrs. Ford was nervous to come forward with her experience, especially earlier in her life, because sexual assault was even more discredited than it is today. I think she thought that she had to tell her story so this man who she thought of as a monster, wouldn't be seen as a saint in the eyes of the media.

  4. I do not believe this will affect the nomination for Kavanaugh, although I think it should. Many are discrediting Mrs. Ford because of how long ago the situation occurred. I think that the allegations on Kavanaugh should be considered in the nomination process, but I, unfortunately, do not think it will make a huge sway in nominations.
