Some immigration advocates are proposing these children are passed onto their sponsor families and given an ankle bracelet to secure their location. However, many also say that is unlawful behavior because these children have done nothing wrong. They are ripped from the life they have created or are in the process of building. With the days it takes to process these children increasing by the day, it is horrible to imagine what the future of immigration looks like for our country, especially for kids.
Do you think it is ethical behavior to take these children to jail? Should immigration laws change to accommodate for these immigrant children? How will immigration affect America in the future?
I believe the actions that are being taken place are wrong, especially if they are in the process or trying to get to live in America. I feel like laws should be changed because there is no real reason to switch the people from detention centers to jails just because they have come of age, immigration is a highly debatable topic that will continue to be questioned for decades.
ReplyDeleteIt is completely unethical to send these children to jail for committing no crime. If we continue to put these children in such terrible situations, we are only going to receive terrible repercussions. Even sending these children to live with another family would be a better alternative to sitting in a jail cell. Immigration laws are getting out of hand, in my opinion. Clearly, sending children to jail isn't the most effective solution for handling this problem.
ReplyDeleteNo this inst ethical AT ALL! They should not have to go to jail just because they are immigrants! Yes I believe the immigration law should change for the accommodation for them, its not right for them to be taken into prison just because they are immigrants. I believe that immigration will start to decline in America, but if it has to decline in this sort of way, then I hope it doesn't.
ReplyDeleteJail is a place for criminals. These immigrant children are not criminals and should not suffer because of their circumstances. They should not be sent to jail because the government takes their time reviewing and accepting his request. It's clear with this specific case that the government deems it easier to just throw them in a jail cell than actually process his request and help him assimilate. With the way this country condemns and treats immigrants, I believe the immigration rate will decrease.
ReplyDeleteImmigrant children should not be taken to jail just because of their ethnicity. When someone thinks of jail they think of people that have done wrong things. They don't think of children who have done nothing wrong, but are being punished for where they come from.
ReplyDeleteFederal law requires that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement places migrant children and teenagers in the least restrictive setting possible, even after they turn 18. If our country's best answer to the problem of "where to put them?" is direct transfer from detention centers to county jails, we are either intentionally blind or irresponsibly oblivious to the importance of the matter and the great means already available to us in the form of ready and willing volunteer foster families and refugee resettlement/assistance agencies. This is an overly harsh and inhumane solution. I think this issue needs more attention from lawmakers and civilians alike if our goal is to keep our country's banner of being the land of love, justice, and opportunity flying.
